Paula finally gets to meet Dewine

Paula becomes a jail bird!
(A dove of peace behind bars?)

April 30, 2002:  Paula Ewers,
along with her husband, John, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and resisting arrest in the Columbus, Ohio office of Senator Mike DeWine.

Eight other activists were also charged in the action.  The ten represent civic groups throughout Ohio that have tried for two years to meet directly with DeWine - always unsuccessfully.

On April 30 they insisted, as constituents, on a definite date for a meeting with the senator - and they refused to leave his office without the promise of a timely appointment. (DeWine helped craft "Plan Colombia," which provided $1.3 billion in mostly military aid to Colombia.)
