September 11
The SOA / WHISC trains Latin American Soldiers to engage in Low Intensity
Conflict; it teaches them to wage war against civilians. In other words,
through the SOA / WHISC, we train terrorists.
Now the United States, too, has become the victim of terrorist acts.
It
is our hope that through the horror and tragedy of September 11, we as
a nation may become more sensitized to the horror and misery caused by
our own, exported brand of terrorism.
POR members have selected various articles and links which follow.
The SOA Watch statement regarding September 11, written prior to the vigil last November, may be found here.
Honor the Victims: Promote Peace
An opinion piece from the 9.11.02 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
by friend of the Dayton POR, Dan Kovalik
.....those who, in the names of the victims
of Sept. 11, are calling for this senseless and destructive war against
Iraq, do dishonor to these victims. To properly mourn the victims of
Sept. 11, we must speak out against these voices of war and resist.....

Waking the Body Politic
Reflection by Dayton POR member Margaret Knapke
September 2002
.....only a "tough
love" of our country can suffice today -- because merely sentimental
love leaves us quietly complicit with abusive policies, and ultimately
vulnerable to those who would resort to acts of terror.
We have chosen to link to the following
sites because they humanize people -- the victims and their families in
New York, the people of Afghanistan, and the people of Islam.
Statements by Loved Ones of People Killed September 11 (from Voices in the Wilderness)
People
of Afghanistan (from some fine folk in Ithaca, NY)
The Wisdom Fund (the ways of Islam)
This article
challenges the tendency to dehumanize the Afghan victims, to see them
as somehow less valuable or significant than those from America.
Civilian Bodies: On the Recognition of Death
We recommend the following essays and interview. They present perspectives not often found in major media outlets.

Chalmers Johnson,
“Blowback,”
Observer (UK)
Rasil Basu, "The Rape of Afghanistan", ZNET
