"This image is taken from a wood carving by Tilman Riemenschneider, a late medieval German sculptor, photographed in Zurich, Switzerland.  The descent from the cross is a meaningful metaphor for compassion in the face of torture.  In the language of the New Testament, 'Inasmuch as you did it unto the least of these, you did it unto me.'"
